- I am reading a book. (Estoy leyendo un libro.)
- Look! It is raining. (¡Mira! Está lloviendo.)
2. Situaciones temporales
- I am living with my friends this month. (Este mes estoy viviendo con mis amigos.)
- He is working a lot these days. (Él está trabajando mucho estos días.)
3. Planes futuros (arreglados)
Planes que ya tenemos decididos y organizados.
- We are meeting friends tonight. (Esta noche quedamos con amigos.)
- She is flying to Paris next week.
- He is always losing his keys! (¡Siempre está perdiendo las llaves!)
- You are always complaining. (Siempre te estás quejando.)
⚙️ Cómo formar el Present Continuous
La estructura es muy simple: necesitas dos elementos, el verbo ‘to be’ y el verbo principal con terminación ‘-ing’.
Conjugación del verbo ‘to be’:
- I am (I’m)
- He / She / It is (He’s, She’s, It’s)
- You / We / They are (You’re, We’re, They’re)
Ejemplos:
- I am working on a project. (Estoy trabajando en un proyecto.)
- She is sleeping right now. (Ella está durmiendo ahora mismo.)
- They are playing football in the park.
swim → swimming, run → running, get → getting.
🚫 Oraciones Negativas e Interrogativas
Como el verbo ‘to be’ ya es un auxiliar, es muy fácil formar negativas y preguntas.
❌ NEGATIVO: Sujeto + verbo ‘to be’ + not + verbo-ing
- I am not (I’m not) working today. (No estoy trabajando hoy.)
- He is not (isn’t) sleeping. (Él no está durmiendo.)
- They are not (aren’t) coming to the party. (Ellos no vienen a la fiesta.)
❓ INTERROGATIVO: Verbo ‘to be’ + sujeto + verbo-ing + …?
- Are you listening to me? (¿Me estás escuchando?)
- Is she working today? (¿Está ella trabajando hoy?)
- What are you doing? (¿Qué estás haciendo?)
Ejemplo práctico con el verbo «to eat»:
| Sujeto | Afirmativo | Negativo | Interrogativo |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | am eating | am not eating | Am I eating? |
| You | are eating | aren’t eating | Are you eating? |
| He/She/It | is eating | isn’t eating | Is he eating? |
| We | are eating | aren’t eating | Are we eating? |
| They | are eating | aren’t eating | Are they eating? |
